Artist’s Statement

Rooted Tree

I make art because it transports me to a timeless place, where everything else around me pauses. It is my solace, and cocoons me.When painting, I always strive to communicate my inner feelings and spiritual points-of-view in ways that words may fail me.

I am energized by bold color combinations and excited by the unlimited potential behind a blank white canvas or watercolor paper.

I am inspired by the natural world,  but prefer to alter the reality of the subject to depict a mood or feeling, rather than portraying the “realism” of the thing.

I often create invented landscapes right from my imagination rather than using reference materials, as this feels like the most organic way to express myself.

Since evoking a mood is my primary goal, I don’t limit my art to one media; My paintings ask to be made from acrylics, watercolors, oils, or mixed media, depending on how I want to express myself.

Even after 30+ years of art-making, I still believe that experimentation is key to my ongoing success as an artist.

My art also reflects my deeply contemplative nature. While I believe in a benevolent and abundant universe, I (like most humans) also can succumb to feelings of loneliness, insecurity and self-doubt.

My paintings often represents these lower-frequency states of mind struggling against the knowing-ness of my purely-loving, eternal spirit self.
